Woodland Revival/Adfywio Coetir

Coetir Clwyd

The Coetir Clwyd project seeks to assist small enterprises by providing a test-bed and showcase for new and innovative methods of sustainably utilising and marketing woodlands and wood products. As well as directly assisting the woodland business sector in rural Denbighshire and Flintshire, the project is intended to provide a showcase for small rural businesses within the Cadwyn Clwyd area.

The project's main aims are:

  • To encourage existing and new enterprises to make best use of woodland resources.
  • To sympathetically utilise sustainably managed resources from woodlands for economic benefit.
  • To explore new and innovative methods of processing woodland resources.

The Coetir Clwyd project comprises of four elements:

Living Galleries
The purpose of Living Galleries is to showcase the work of local furniture makers and the beauty and quality of native timber. This is achieved through informal display of 'pieces' and interpretation in selected public houses, restaurants and other venues in the area.

Benchmark
Benchmark further develops and extends the Living Galleries concept into outdoor display spaces, encompassing open countryside sites, private and public attractions and rural village/townscapes. The 'benches' provide practical seating, but are intended to be quirky in design and interpret the environs in which they are located. This interpretation may invoke surrounding architectural details, historic, artistic or cultural events, personalities or associations.

Physical Access
The purpose of Physical Access is to provide new or enhanced access to the woodlands of rural Denbighshire and Flintshire, to raise awareness of their diverse values and the history of the network of parks, woods and forests associated with the 13th C Edwardian castles in North East Wales (where possible).

Coed Cymreig Welsh Wood Ltd
A company setup recently from the Charcoal and Firewood Producers' Network to promote the use of Welsh wood, initially in North East Wales (http://www.ccwwltd.co.uk/).
